Jemima (aka Emma) Jones (1880-1960)

Glan Severn, Llanidloes William and Jemima's fourth child Jemima (aka Emma) Jones, born on 9 June 1880, was still living with her family in 1891. She never married. In 1911 she was living with her unmarried sisters in The Close (New Street), Llanidloes and she later lived with her sister Elizabeth at 'Glan Severn' (pictured right) and like her was a teacher at the Church of England (National) School, Llanidloes. In 1939 she was still teaching but her sister had retired from teaching and they were living at "Glansevern". These pages provide an insight into the schooldays of Emma and her siblings, as well as into her time as a teacher.

Latterly, Emma, lived at "Aubigny", Llanidloes, with some of her sisters, whom she outlived. She died on Sunday, 6 March 1960 at the War Memorial Hospital, Llanidloes, and, like them, is buried at Llanidloes (Dolhafren) Cemetery. Probate was granted at Oxford to Roy Hamer Birtles, research chemist, the husband of Sarah's niece, Barbara..
