Family life
In the 1881 census the Owen family was living at
'Rhos Cottage'.
From here the older boys had to walk about 2 miles, much of it along the windswept coastline, to their school at Beaumaris.
According to Elijah's obituary he was curate of Penmon and Lanfaes from 1875 to 1888 and living in the vicarage very near
Rhos Cottage in 1881 was the family of Rev. Thomas W. Trevor, at that time vicar of Penmon and Lanfaes. Crockfords records
that Elijah was briefly in charge of Llandegfan in 1881 which agrees with the census entry, below, though Llandegfan was
about 5 miles from Rhos Cottage.

The wedding photo (right), taken on the occasion of the marriage of Mary Owen to William John Tyson in 1890, includes
Elijah's brother, Rev. Elias Owen and Elizabeth Owen's brother, Rev. John Adams; together they conducted the ceremony.
Note that in both family photos young Reginald Owen has the right side of his face turned away from the camera. This was because he lost his right eye as a baby. >
