From 10 November 1915 a series of telegrams arrived at Aberdaron vicarage:

10 Nov: Regret to inform you 2/Lieut. V.E. Owen, 9th Royal Welsh Fusrs. was wounded 7th Nov. Further news will be wired when received.

Undated telegram (Priority War Office London, OHMS): Regret to inform you that 2nd Lieut. V.E. Owen reported to be dangerously ill in No. 1 Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet with perforated bullet wound left chest. You are permitted to visit him

15 Nov.: Regret to inform you that 2nd Lieut. V.E. Owen Welsh Fusiliers dangerously ill in No. 1 Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet with perforated rifle bullet wound left chest. You are permitted to visit him. No passport necessary. This telegram must be produced to the Assistant Embarkation Commandant, Folkestone by addressee only who must satisfy him as to his identity.

16 Nov.: Telegram referring 2/Lieut. Vernon E. Owen Welsh Fusiliers should read perforating rifle bullet wound left thigh. Deeply regret error.

16 Nov.: You are permitted to visit 2/Lieut. V.E. Owen in 1 Red Cross Hospital, Le Touquet. No passport necessary. This telegram must be produced to Assistant Embarkation Commandant, Folkestone by addressee only who must satisfy him as to his identity.

(A telegram was also sent to Folkestone that day, confirming this arrangement.)

25 Nov.: Hospital reports 22nd inst. condition of 2nd Lieut. V.E. Owen Welsh Regiment dangerous.

29 Nov.: Deeply regret to inform you 2nd Lieut. V. E. Owen Welsh Fusiliers died from secondary haemorrhage following shell wound. Secretary of State expresses his sympathy.
