James Owen of Penrhos

and his descendants

Edward James Roberts Elijah's son, Edwin James Roberts (right), was born in 1899 [Birkenhead 1899, 4th qt]. He enlisted in the army on 8 June 1917 and was a private in the 3rd Reserver Cavalry Unit of the Hussars of the Line from which he was discharged on 5 May 1919. At that time he was still living with his parents at 106 Oliver Street, Birkenhead. He married [Birkenhead 1921, 1st qt] Josephine Hewton and they had two sons, Henry and William. Only Josephine and Henry are listed together on the 1939 register, living at 26 Allerton Grove, Birkenhead; Henry was then an ARP Messanger and William was probably living elsewhere as an evacuee. Edwin died in 1966, aged 66 [Birkenhead 1966, 4th qt] but Josephine who had been born in Rock Ferry on 1 November 1901 [Birkenhead] lived to be 87 [d Birkenhead 1989, 1st qt].

Edwin's son Henry James Roberts was born on 23 February 1922 [Birkenhead] and he married [Birkenhead 1947, 1st qt] and had five sons and a daughter. His youngest son, Allan Roy Roberts, born on 17 July 1950 [Birkenhead], married [Birkenhead 1970, 1st qt] and had a son but Allan died tragically young, aged 33 [Birkenhead 1984, 2nd qt]. Henry lived to be 78 [d Birkenhead Aug 2000].

William John Roberts was born on 30 November 1927 [Birkenhead] and married at St John's, Great Sutton, Cheshire, on 6 March 1954 [West Cheshire]. The marriage produced a daughter and a son but I believe it ended in divorce. William died aged 66 [Chester & Ellesmere Port 1994, 4th qt].
