Louisa's second marriage
In 1885 Louisa (née Shelby) remarried [Wrexham 1885, 3rd qt]. Her second husband, John Jones, had been born in Nerquis, Flintshire in about 1852. He was initially a road-sweeper, a ‘general labourer’ in 1901 and a waterworks labourer in 1911, but I am told he rose to become an inspector of reservoirs. He and Louisa had three children, all born in Minera, Denbighshire: Sarah Gladys Patricia Jones (b 1887), Maggie Gwendoline Jones (b 1889) and John Owen Jones (b 1891). In 1891 the family was living at Minera Schoolhouse, next door to John William Owen who was later to marry Louisa’s sister Miriam. At the time of her brother, Thomas's marriage in 1900, Louisa and her family were living at Trevor School, which was where her brother, James had been teaching during the 1890s. In 1901 Louisa and John had a lodger and were living with their three children in Wrexham Road, in the village of Rhostyllen, south west of Wrexham, (map 4) and in 1911 the family was living at 36 Spring Road, Wrexham. John’s grandchildren remembered John with great affection; he would sit by the open range in the kitchen, smoking his pipe.
Louisa died in 1931 [Wrexham 1931, 2nd qtr] aged seventy-seven (buried 1 June) and John in 1940 aged eighty-eight (buried 28 March). Their grave is in Wrexham cemetery.
(Sarah) Gladys Patricia Jones
Louisa and John's eldest daughter, (Sarah) Gladys Patricia Jones, was born in 1887 [Wrexham 1887, 2nd qt] and baptised at Minera Parish Church on 8 May 1887. In 1911 she was a telephonist, living with her parents, but soon afterwards [Willesden 1911, 2nd qtr] she married Osborne Janion Hedley (1883-1955), son of Robert Janion Hedley, a brewer’s clerk, and Mary Jane Agnes Griffiths. Osborne had been educated at Grove Park High School, Wrexham and had became a dispensing chemist. According to probate records, Osborne, of Norman Gateway, Windsor Castle, died at 62 Spring Road, Wrexham, on 18 February 1955.
Sarah and John had three daughters, one of whom was (Olive Gwendolen) Patricia Hedley who was born on 21 April 1919; she died, unmarried, in 1995 [Grantham Mar 1995]. Their eldest daughter was the writer (Gladys) Olwen Hedley. In her latter years Sarah lived with Olwen, first at Windsor Castle and later at Denny Crescent, London, where she died on 23 September 1975.
